What is a PP Cream Jar?

A PP cream jar is a container specifically designed for storing creams, ointments, balms, and other semi-solid cosmetics or topical products, where the primary material is Polypropylene (PP) plastic.

The term "PP" is the crucial differentiator, as this plastic offers specific properties that make it an excellent choice for many cream-based formulations.

Why is PP Material Used?

Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most popular plastics for cosmetic packaging due to its unique combination of properties:

1. Excellent Chemical Resistance: This is its biggest advantage. PP is highly resistant to a wide range of acids, alkalis, and solvents. It won't degrade or interact with the complex chemical formulas of creams, lotions, and serums, ensuring product integrity.

2. Good Moisture Barrier: PP provides a good barrier against water vapor, helping to prevent the cream from drying out or losing its consistency over time.

3. Heat Resistance: PP has a high melting point (around 160°C / 320°F). This makes it autoclavable (sterilizable with steam) and suitable for hot filling processes, which is critical for pharmaceuticals and some cosmetics.

4. Durability and Flexibility: It is semi-rigid, offering good impact resistance. It won't shatter like glass and is less likely to crack than other more brittle plastics.

   Key Components of a PP Cream Jar System

   A typical PP cream jar system consists of three main parts:

   1. PP Jar (Body): The main container that holds the product. It can be opaque, transparent, or colored. PP is naturally semi-translucent but can be easily dyed.

   2. PP Lid/Cap: The closure that screws or snaps onto the jar to create an airtight seal, preventing contamination and evaporation. The lid often includes:

      • Inner Liners: A foil seal (for tamper evidence) or a foam pad (to keep the product fresh and prevent leaking).

      • Orifice Diaphragm: For thicker products, a sealed membrane with a small opening that controls how much product is dispensed.
